Dr. Johanna Painer-Gigler 

Dr. Johanna Painer-Gigler is a specialist zoo and wildlife veterinarian dedicated to advancing wildlife medicine, conservation, and welfare. She earned her veterinary degree in 2009 in Vienna, followed by a PhD in Wildlife Medicine at the Leibniz Institute of Zoo and Wildlife Research (IZW Berlin), focusing on wildlife reproduction management and conservation of endangered species. After a postdoctoral fellowship on rescue and rehabilitation of illegal and maltreated wildlife, she returned to Vienna in 2016 and currently works as a clinical wildlife veterinarian and senior scientist at the Research Institute of Wildlife Ecology (FIWI) at the Veterinary University of Vienna. She consults and trains for zoological gardens, wildlife sanctuaries, and conservation NGOs worldwide, with expertise in wildlife anaesthesia, ultrasonography, internal medicine, reproduction, biomimetics, and welfare.
